Merging vs. Joining

Maintaining Boundaries in Compassionate Work

Merging vs. Joining is one of our most requested trainings, offering a powerful and practical lens on how to stay deeply empathic without losing yourself in the emotional intensity of your work. Whether you're supporting children and families, individuals in recovery, or navigating the demands of healthcare settings, this training helps clinicians and staff maintain emotional clarity, ethical integrity, and professional resilience.

This 2-hour training explores:

  • The difference between merging (empathic over-involvement) and joining (clear, attuned presence)

  • Somatic tools to detect and reset boundary blurring in real time

  • Red flags that signal emotional over-identification

  • Structured strategies for maintaining boundaries in fast-paced, high-stakes environments

Grounded in trauma-informed care and somatic experiencing, this training is especially relevant for organizations where relational intensity is high and burnout is a concern. Participants will leave with a felt understanding of boundaries—not just a theoretical one—and practical strategies to support both their own sustainability and their clients’ empowerment.

CEUs are available for LMHCs and social workers, and adaptations for LADCs or other professionals can be explored based on team needs.

Understanding the Freeze Response

A Nervous System-Informed Approach to Trauma, Disengagement, and Shutdown

The freeze response is often misunderstood or misinterpreted—labeled as resistance, shutdown, avoidance, or lack of motivation. In reality, freeze is a biologically adaptive trauma response rooted in the nervous system’s drive for survival. This training is designed to help clinicians and caregiving professionals across fields—mental health, addiction recovery, education, and healthcare—recognize and work more skillfully with this subtle but powerful state.

In this 2-hour workshop, participants will gain a clear, accessible understanding of the freeze response through the lens of somatic psychology and trauma-informed care. We’ll explore the nuances of freeze as it presents in therapy, treatment settings, and caregiving relationships, and introduce practical strategies for supporting clients in slowly and safely moving toward re-engagement.

Participants will learn:

  • How to recognize signs of freeze, including dissociation, fawning, and functional shutdown

  • Why freeze is often mistaken for noncompliance or resistance

  • Somatic tools to support safe, gradual "thawing" and re-regulation

  • Techniques for attuning to nervous system states in real time

  • Ways to reduce shame and increase client self-compassion

This training is ideal for clinicians and teams seeking a deeper understanding of how trauma lives in the body—and how to respond with clarity, presence, and effectiveness.

CEUs available for LMHCs and social workers. Adaptable for interdisciplinary teams including LADCs, nurses, case managers, and educators.

Attachment in the Clinical Setting

Cultivating Safety and Connection Through Somatic Storytelling

This training explores how attachment patterns shape the therapeutic relationship—and how clinicians can use somatic awareness and storytelling to build safety, foster attunement, and support emotional regulation.

Clients with insecure or anxious attachment often show up in therapy with urgency, heightened sensitivity, and a deep longing for connection. Without the right tools, this can lead to emotional overwhelm or therapist burnout. This workshop offers a nervous system-informed approach to attachment work that integrates cognitive, emotional, and embodied awareness—making it ideal for teams working in trauma care, youth services, addiction recovery, and healthcare.

In this 2-hour experiential training, participants will explore:

  • How to recognize signs of anxious or insecure attachment in clinical settings

  • The power of narrative and “slowing down” storytelling for emotional integration

  • Somatic tracking techniques to co-regulate and stabilize client states

  • Tools for creating secure relational experiences—through breath, tone, movement, and pacing

  • Strategies for maintaining therapeutic presence and boundaries when clients are emotionally activated

This training is especially helpful for interdisciplinary teams working with emotionally complex populations or in high-demand environments where relational connection is critical but time is limited.

CEUs are available for LMHCs and social workers. Adaptable for teams including LADCs, RNs, and school-based providers.
